"Ambachtsheer" lord of a Manor |
- The "Ambachtsheer" was a lord of an "ambacht or ambachtsheerlijkheid" a small low level fief (Manor) often found in the heart of the country. Sometimes nothing more than a castle and a few hectors of land, although most were larger. In these, there was no jurisdiction to administer capital punishment. In the feudal system, a lord was usually himself the vassal of a lord of a higher rank, usually someone of high nobility who was in turn the vassal of a king or emperor.
