- This village, also called Eemde, was one of 72 villages in the former "Zuid Hollandsche Waard" by Dordrecht the former Capital of Holland that completly flooded in the middle of the night of 18 November 1421 on Sint-Elisabethsvloed day when a North Sea storm caused a number of the dikes to break. The enormous casualties were about 6,000. For decades Dordrecht was surrounded by water, so the Capital of Holland had to be moved. To this day, 34 of the 72 villages are still under water Eem being one of them.
